German engineering giant Siemens says it is preparing to sign a major deal with Iran to develop the country’s railway system.
Reuters quoted an unnamed industry source as saying that top Siemens officials will arrive in Tehran on Friday to discuss the deal which is expected to be worth above €2 billion.
It will involve an order for a model of intercity train in use in Germany.

Reuters added that Germany’s Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt is also expected in Tehran on Friday.

Minister Dobrindt is expected to discuss the expansion of mutual cooperation over a variety of areas.  He will head a major trade delegation during his meeting.

German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel traveled to Iran at the start of the month and during that trip Siemens got an order to build parts for 50 locomotives, Reuters added.

The two countries during Gabriel’s visit signed a range of business deals in what was seen as a move which could take economic relations between the two countries to a new level.

Gabriel led a delegation of 160 businesspeople to Tehran. This was his second visit to Iran since the country reached a deal in July last year to restrict certain aspects of its nuclear energy activities in return for the removal of some economic sanctions that had been imposed on it for several years.

New Ford is packed with intelligent features

Ford’s new Mondeo will be its first car to offer a new pedestrian detection technology that could help reduce the severity of accidents or help drivers avoid them altogether. The new Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection system can identify people in the road ahead, or that could cross the vehicle’s path, and automatically apply the brakes if the driver does not respond to warnings. The system processes information collected from a windshield-mounted camera, and radar located in the bumper, and checks it against a database of ‘pedestrian shapes’ to distinguish people from typical roadside scenery and objects.

Engineers tested the system on closed circuits using life-size dummies. They also spent months testing and refining the system on roads around the world to prove system reliability under real-world conditions. “The real-world testing was crucial. Pedestrians come in all shapes and sizes, and adopt an infinite number of postures,” said Gregor Allexi, active safety engineer for Ford of Europe. “We covered more than 500,000 km (310,700 miles) to make sure that we tested Pedestrian Detection against the widest range of people and situations possible.

What is Foreign Policy?

A country's foreign policy consists of self-interest strategies chosen by the state to safeguard its national interests and to achieve its own goals through relations with other countries. The approaches are strategically employed to interact with other countries.

In recent times, due to the deepening level of globalization and transnational activities, states also have to interact with non-state actors. The aforementioned interaction is evaluated and monitored in an attempt to maximize benefits of multilateral international cooperation. Since the national interests are paramount, foreign policies are designed by the government through high-level decision making processes. National interest accomplishments can occur as a result of peaceful cooperation with other nations or through exploitation.

Elements of Foreign Policy

Foreign policy is designed to protect the national interests of the state. Modern foreign policy has become quite complex. In the past, foreign policy may have concerned itself primarily with policies solely related to national interest--for example, military power or treaties. Currently, foreign policy encompasses trade, finance, human rights, environmental, and cultural issues. All of these issues, in some way, impact how countries interact with one another and how they pursue their national interests worldwide.

Who Is in Charge of Foreign Policy?

Usually, creating foreign policy is designated to the head of government and the foreign minister (or equivalent). In some countries the legislature also has considerable oversight.

In the United States, foreign policy is made and carried out by the executive branch, particularly the president, with the national security adviser, the State Department, the Defense Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the intelligence agencies. The National Security Act of 1947 and recent bureaucratic reorganization after 9/11 reshaped the structure of foreign policy making.
